Hardwood Stair Installation in The Space Coast
A staircase takes more daily abuse than almost any other surface in the house, and it's usually the first thing anyone notices walking in. Brevard Flooring has been building and installing hardwood staircases throughout The Space Coast since 2005, matched to the rest of your flooring and built to hold up to a busy household.
We handle it in one visit: pulling out old carpet or worn treads, checking and shimming the stringers underneath, custom-milling nosings to match your hardwood, installing treads and risers, and sealing everything with a low-VOC finish. One crew start to finish, one warranty.

Solid or engineered treads - which fits your staircase
Solid oak, maple, and hickory treads are still the standard choice for staircases, and a well-built solid tread will outlast most of what's around it in the house.
Engineered treads make more sense when you're matching an existing engineered floor, or when the staircase sits near a slab-level transition. They're dimensionally stable, tend to squeak less over time, and look identical to solid wood once they're installed and finished.
- Red oak, white oak, maple, hickory, and walnut kept in stock
- Stains color-matched to your existing floor using physical sample boards
- Open-riser, boxed, curved, and winding staircases
- Custom-milled nosings for the cases where a manufacturer doesn't carry a match

What the three-day process looks like
Day one is demo and prep - old carpet or tile comes out, the staircase gets vacuumed and inspected, and any loose stringers get shimmed so nothing squeaks later. Day two is treads, risers, and nosings, installed with construction adhesive and finish nails so there's nothing visible on the surface. Day three is finishing - stain if you want it, several coats of polyurethane, and a final walk-through before we call it done.

Making the stairs match the rest of the floor
Most homeowners want their staircase to look like a continuation of the floor around it, not a separate project bolted on afterward. We pull from the same stain batch used on your existing flooring and match the finish sheen so the two read as one surface. If you'd rather go the other direction - dark treads against painted white risers, for instance - we'll mock that up on a sample board before ordering anything. You can see examples of finished work and read what past customers thought on our reviews page.

Hardwood stair pricing in The Space Coast
Most homes we work on have 13-16 stairs. Pricing below is per stair, materials and labor included, and every quote we give is fixed - no add-ons after the fact.
| Option | Typical price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Red oak treads + risers, clear finish | $165 - $215 per stair | Most popular option |
| White oak or maple treads, stained | $195 - $260 per stair | Color-matched to your floor |
| Engineered hardwood treads | $175 - $235 per stair | Best over concrete slabs |
| Walnut or hickory treads | $230 - $310 per stair | Premium wood species |
Final price depends on stair count, the condition of your stringers, stain choice, and whether risers are wrapped in wood or painted. We'll give you a firm number after a free in-home measure - [request an estimate](/free-estimate) to get one scheduled.
Hardwood Stairs - frequently asked questions
Yes - we remove the carpet, padding, staples, and tack strip, then check the treads underneath. If they're solid, we can build on top of them; if they're particleboard or damaged, we replace them with new treads as part of the same job.
A typical 14-stair job takes about 2 to 3 days start to finish - demo the first day, install the second, finish the third. You can use the stairs the next morning, with a full cure around a week out.
That's what we aim for on almost every job. We bring stain samples to your house, apply them to the same wood species you already have, and let you choose before we order materials - you're picking from the actual wood and color, not a photo.
They're no more slippery than any other hard flooring. We finish stairs with a matte or satin polyurethane built for low slip, and if you'd like extra grip, we can add discreet anti-slip strips tucked under the nosing.
