Natural stone is the most beautiful flooring available and the least forgiving to install. Every stone reacts differently to mortar, sealer, and the saw blade, and a stone floor set wrong will show it for decades. Brevard Flooring has installed natural stone throughout Brevard County since 2005, working in marble, travertine, slate, limestone, and granite for homes and businesses across The Space Coast.
We source premium-grade stone from quarries we trust and won't install discount stone that's prone to pitting, spalling, or cracking underfoot - especially in a climate where humidity and temperature swings put extra stress on the material.
Matching the stone to the space
Every stone has a personality. The right pick depends on where it's going, how much foot traffic it takes, and how much upkeep you want to sign up for.
- Marble - timeless luxury for bathrooms and feature areas; needs sealing and gentle, pH-neutral cleaners
- Travertine - warm, earthy tones and slight porosity; a natural fit for entries, sunrooms, and lanais
- Slate - rugged and slip-resistant; ideal for mudrooms, kitchens, and outdoor walkways near the pool
- Limestone - a soft matte, European look; well suited to bathrooms and powder rooms
- Granite - the hardest stone we install; built for high-traffic floors and outdoor commercial spaces
Sealing, honing, and long-term care in a humid climate
Natural stone needs to be sealed at installation and re-sealed every 1-3 years - we'll set the schedule based on your specific stone and how exposed it is to humidity and moisture. We use premium impregnating sealers that block out water and oils without changing the stone's color or finish, which matters more here than in drier climates.
Stone can also be re-honed or re-polished if it scratches or dulls over time. Brevard Flooring is one of the few shops on the Space Coast that handles on-site stone restoration, so your investment keeps its look for the life of the home. Natural Stone Tile - frequently asked questions
Yes - aside from dense granite, every natural stone is porous and will absorb stains without a sealer, and central Florida's humidity makes that even more important. We seal on installation day and recommend a refresh every 1-3 years depending on traffic.
Fair concern - marble etches from acidic liquids like citrus, vinegar, and wine. Plenty of homeowners love the aged patina that develops, but if you want a floor that looks new indefinitely, we'll point you toward a marble-look porcelain instead.
It's not common in Brevard County given our climate, but yes - stone conducts and holds heat exceptionally well if you want it in a primary bath. We install electric mat systems under most of our stone floors when requested.
We keep a record of every stone we install and where it was sourced, so in most cases we can match the original for a single-tile replacement instead of redoing the whole floor.
